Notes from S3: "Wow - I had no idea that people could be so vicious and cruel after reading the article: 'Blogging Theory'. The idea of censorship takes on an entire new meaning. How much are you willing to put yourself out there? How much criticism are you willing to take? One of my main concerns I admit when I first found out that we were going to do the majority of our work on our own blogs. What happens, like in your (Professor Dean's) case where people respond in personal and hurtful way? This raises the question of how much you should censor your own blogs, how much personal information or your own view points should you include?
When people leave comments (as you said in your article) it is meant to be an interactive experience, back and forth bantering between people, its purpose to be helpful, not cause pain and personal attacks. How did blogging turn into vindictive and malicious? My answer is similar to my response to our first assignment - face to face interaction matters . Personal attack is much more tangible when you cannot see who is on the other side of the computer.
Even with blogs devoted to academic pursuits, I am still hesitant to put such strong feelings about personal opinions on the internet. How comfortable do you feel exposing your thoughts and ideas?"
