What's going on--REVISED

So, today we heard from the last two power point groups.

After that, we discussed the projects and the process.

What's next?

Over the next few days, you should write about the research you did over the weekend on your blogs. You should communicate with your group about ideas for your video (you might meet face to face for this or do it over email or on your blogs).

What is your theme? Issue? Problem? Idea? Focus? Solution? Evidence? Feeling? (these are questions to get you stimulated--as you think about putting your video together, think about what made for effective power point presentations; the video will be more challenging because you are putting together information from the current campaign with information from Rebooting America). A short video (3-4 minutes) will need to be outlined just like a presentation would be.

We have 3 students who will be experts on video technologies that will help us on Tuesday. If you want to give it a try in advance, you can try the movie-maker program on machines with microsoft. There is also free software available on line.

How to help your group: get ideas for music, video footage, images; locate free versions online to integrate into your video.

The current plan is for the experts to teach us how to use the software on Tuesday.

Next Thursday is video day. You'll show the videos in class.

The following Tuesday (Oct 28): read Shirky on Weblogs and Powerlaws (in resource list) and my chapter in the Boler book.

Thursday Oct 30 is teaching day.

Sounds like a plan

For the teaching day next week, are we doing a different format?

my sense was that what folks really wanted was to hear more presentations from their classmates. so, I'm thinking that the best way to change the format is just to use larger groups. what do you think?

I like this schedule.

I don't understand what you mean by using larger groups. I thought students wanted to hear more teaching presentations rather than the 6 or 7 we heard last time. Do you mean for students to teach in groups?

I still mean teach in groups--there isn't enough time to hear from everyone. the groups would be just be bigger.

I found the last teaching day format very productive. Everyone came to the table with something to teach and then meeting in groups provided for specific presentations to be shared with the class.
