Welcome.

This will be your base for the course. Assignments, readings, expectations, and announcements will all be here. You should check this blog at least three or four times a week.

Introduce yourselves to each other. Say something about yourselves.

My office hours are Fridays from 8:30 to 11:30, Stern 116.

Read the first assignment. Talk about it. It has to be done by Wednesday at 8:00 pm.

Look through the books a bit before Thursday. And look through the resources provided on the side. There are also some articles on reserve at the library. A couple of these are important for the first assignment.

Think about what you want to learn. What you can teach. What's important. Talk it over. You could write about it on the blog you set up for the class. We'll come up with a plan for the course together. I think it's a good idea to begin with the Levinson book because it gives us some valuable guidelines for approaching digital media. Levinson draws from the media theorist, Marshall McLuhan (famous for the slogan "the media is the message"). We'll also need to talk about our expectations for the course and each other as well as the ethics of blogging.
